<B>The Male Factor </B> In approximately 40% of infertile couples, the male partner is either the sole or a contributing cause of infertility. Male infertility is often the result of sperm abnormalities. These include:  Low sperm count. Varicocele. A swollen vein in the scrotum that impedes sperm development. Infections. Improper sperm shape or movement. This could prevent sperm from reaching the egg.
