Recent vaccines have been shown to prevent infection with some of the strains of the sexually transmitted human papilloma virus (or HPV). This virus is the leading cause of cervical cancer. This is why these vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix , are also seen as vaccines to prevent cervical cancer.
